Basic Computer maintenance tips

The single most important thing you can learn to do with your computer is to properly
maintain it. A properly maintained computer will prove itself to be reliable work and
play tool that will save you headaches, frustration and in the long term - money.
MT2 (Maintenance Tip 2) - Antivirus Software
Most people have an antivirus program on their systems such as Norton's or
Mcafee. If you are not running an antivirus program then you really do need to get one
immediately.
Getting a virus, worm, or trojan horse on your computer can cause your system to crash,
run slowly and most importantly - you could even lose your data.
Make sure your antivirus program is set to update its virus definitions
once per day via the internet. Also ensure that it is configured to scan every
email message that you send and receive.
Most importantly run a full virus scan on your entire computer once every week.
(Editors note:
Some people believe that it is
also a good idea to allow your antivirus program to automatically
run 'in the background' while you are surfing the internet, or downloading files to
your computer. This is called "Auto Protect" on some Anti-Virus programs. Note:
After scanning any new software downloads for viruses, you should always turn your anti virus
program OFF before installing software on your computer. )
